It's that time of year when many are planning a fireworks party. Many dogs are terrified of fireworks. If you know of any displays taking place near your home it would be a good idea to introduce your new puppy to similar sounds via a cd or video. Play it on a lower volume everyday, increasing it slightly to allow the dog to get used to the noise.
Try to avoid walking your puppy after dark and keep all windows and doors closed to reduce the noise level and make a place of comfort for the dog so that it knows where he will feel safest. Don't be afraid to offer the dog comfort if they are worried by what is happening, regardless of what they are scared of. Picking up a small dog or cuddling a larger one will not make the fear worse. Keep your voice upbeat and happy so the dog knows you are not worried too.
